For me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of amateur astronomy is the ability to gradually improve my technique and adapt the equipment through trial and error. In some cases it can be far more fruitful to spend several nights analysing a problem to determine the underlying cause than simply spending money to replace bits of hardware or software. If by sharing this information I can help out other astronomers in the process then I feel that justifies my time and effort developing this website.
